Anycubic Photon Mono M5s and 12K resolution LCD screen

Anycubic, one of the manufacturers of entry-level LCD resin 3D-printers just announced another leap in resin 3D-printing. Just when all the manufacturers are switching to the larger 8K resolution LCD screens, Anycubic now announced the first ever 12K resin 3D-printer named the Anycubic Photon Mono M5s. Learn more about the printer specifications, compatible resins and the odd fact that this printer has non-square pixels!

With the release date of 15th of May, slowly all specifications are becoming available to the public. These are the specifications that are known

  • – 12K resolution
  • – 11520 x 5120 pixels
  • – 10,1 inch screen/build area diameter
  • – 218 x 123 x 200 mm build area (L x W x H)
  • – 19 micron X pixel size and 24 micron Y pixel size

So despite its 12K resolution, the new Anycubic Photon Mono M5s resin 3D-printer does not have an incredible big build volume. for this printer they focused on a smaller pixel size instead of a larger build volume.

Anycubic tells that the X pixel size is 19 micron, which was odd at first as usually manufacturers don’t specify a pixel size in X or Y as the pixels are almost square. With the amount of pixels of 11520 x 5120 and a build area of 218 x 123 mm we calcularet that the X pixel size is indeed 19 microns and the Y pixel size if 24 microns.

Before reading the specs we suspected this already a bit, as if you look at the Epax3D E10-5K 10.1″ Mono LCD 3D Printer, their 10,1 inch screen has the size of 221,4 x 129,6mm.  If the new Anycubic 12K Photon Mono M5s has the same size, that would mean its pixel size in Y direction is 25 microns. What you will see in both calculations is that the build area is not incredible large even though a 12K LCD screen was used. This is due to the very small pixel size of this machine. It can be that there are more Photon Mono M5 printers coming as this one is listed as M5s (small?). Looking at the developments in the industry, all the major manufacturers will try to implement this 12K resolution and later even 16K or larger in their hardware.
