If you look at the resin 3D-printer offering these days, there are already a lot of desktop MSLA / LCD printers and some DLP printers that already utilize 4K imaging technology. For instance the:
- – Phrozen Sonic Mighty 4K
- – Phrozen Sonic Mini 4K
- – Elegoo Saturn
- – Anycubic Photon Mono X
- – Anycubic Photon 4K
- – Creality Halot-Sky
- – Longer Orange 4K
- – And many more.
And of course the more professional printers:
- – Shining3D Accufab-L4K and Accufab-L4D
- – Zortrax Inkspire 2
- – Nexa3D XIP
- – Asiga Pro 4K (DLP)
- – UnionTech Cute380 (DLP)
Almost every brand in the LCD / MSLA resin 3D-printing hardware already upgraded its fleet to 4K or higher (16K even now for LCD printers in this 2024 update!). for DLP this is more complicated and more expensive, making the 4K DLP offering still quite limited. And what about 4K compatible resins for 3D-printing, are they available yet? Well, for resins they do not really care if you expose them with a high or low resolution light beam. Resins just react on the light that hits them with the right wavelength to react. So basically you can use all resins that work on a 405nm 2K LCD printer also on a 405nm 4K or even 8K LCD printer. Of course there is difference in resin accuracy and perfectly dialed in settings are needed, but it has nothing to do with the 2K, 4K or 8K resolution at all.

With the introduction of high resolution, 4K resin 3D-printers, marketing also hits the resin market. For instance Phrozen, Elegoo and other companies are now offering 4K resin and an 8K resin. According to the company; “Phrozen Aqua 4K Resin was designed for high resolution and works best with the Sonic Mini 4K & Sonic Mighty 4K 3D Printers. With its special formula, Phrozen Aqua 4K Resin creates high-quality & extremely intricate 3D models with 4K resolution.”
We at Liqcreate – As a resin developer and manufacturer- do understand that a resin specifically developed for a type of printer can give great quality. The power and wavelength of the LED in the printer can be fine-tuned to work best for the resin and the resin can be modified as well to work well on this printer. But, this does not mean that if you run a ‘4K resin’ on different 4K printers, the same quality can be achieved. The resolution comes from the hardware in combination with settings that work well with the resin. With any compatible resin you would be able to get similar resolution printed parts.
Liqcreate resins are universal resins, working with DLP, MSLA and sometimes even SLA. These resins work on 2K, 4K, 8K, 16K and anything in between. As long as the settings are dialed in properly. In this list you can find settings for a lot of printers, to get the best results when working with Liqcreate 3D-printing resin.
